TOEFL

TOEFL is a language proficiency test taken by candidates who desire to study abroad and acquire global exposure. The ETS, the organization that administers the TOEFL exam, has not established any exact eligibility criteria for the exam. It is mostly given to students who want to get into English-speaking universities, colleges, or educational institutions. The TOEFL exam is taken by those who have completed high school or the equivalent. Other than that, candidates must have a valid passport to show as proof of identity during the exam.

Because it is an English language proficiency test, students should always check the requirements of the specific college/university to which they are applying. This exam is compulsory for all students whose first language is not English. Universities in major English-speaking countries such as the United States and Canada demand students to prove their language proficiency in order to be admitted to their educational institutions. Apart from students, professionals take the TOEFL exam because it is required for obtaining a visa. Furthermore, the ETS, the authority that administers this exam, has set no age limit.

This exam is divided into four sections: reading, writing, listening and speaking, according to the TOEFL test pattern. Overall, the candidates’ performance is given a score of 120. Candidates can prepare for the TOEFL exam by using the recommended TOEFL Books and Resources for TOEFL.
